Natural looking rocky terrain (I hope)

A "finished" rocky hill.
I got fed up with my attempts at miniatures painting and wound up tossing them all in a bath of Simple Green to soak.

I was feeling the urge to build something and had finished setting up the portable band saw my wife had got me for Christmas so naturally I found myself making terrain, well cutting 6mm MDF with a bevel-edge anyway.

I wasn't sure what I was going to make yet but I had a ton of scrap insulation foam and some Woodland Scenics rock molds I was wanting to try out so I decided to make some hills. For me, this consisted of taking the cut MDF, gluing a bunch of foam chunks all over the place and on top of each other to make a basic shape and then tacking on the cast plaster rocks wherever seemed to suit them best. There will be some pictures of this highly complex process further down in the post.

Adventures in Painting Minis

So, I decided it was finally time to attempt getting some paint on some of the Oldhammer minis I've been collecting.

Molding and casting and molding and casting and...

So I wanted to get into a little more detail on my building interiors and exteriors.

I figured a good way to do that would be to make some masters, mold and cast them and then modify the master and mold it again repeatedly to get some variation.

Here's what went down...

Scatter barricades

I wanted to try my hand at throwing together some quick and dirty barricades using tongue depressors as the base.

So I did, lol.

Here's the finished products:

Urban Ruins x 2

Here's the info on my last 2 builds prior to the fenced in storage lot. Both were actually spur of the moment, I feel like throwing something together builds.

Some pics that are closest to the state these are currently in:

The Marine Bunker... a year in the making (minus 50 weeks of sitting forgotten on a shelf in the middle...)

Here's a mostly visual diary of my bunker build.

This was my 6th terrain piece (I think!), and second sci-fi themed. Unfortunately, there's hardly any early WIP pics (which was actually a pretty interesting phase) but I didn't document much of anything back then. *shrug*

This is the near end/end state:

Older Builds or The Bad, the Bad and the Ugly

I travel a lot for work. Like, a lot. More than I'd like sometimes.

When I'm home I like to do family things for the most part but when my wife and kids aren't interested in doing said family things with me I sometimes hide away in my furnace room/closet/workshop and attempt to build & paint stuff.

I'm not much of a miniature painter yet. Haven't tried a whole lot yet either so maybe it's more of a lack of trying and experience issue. Either way, I'm not a great terrain painter either but I do find it easier. One thing I've been finding is I'd like to get an airbrush setup sometime to play with and expand my options. So far I'm learning with what I've got. Which is brushes.
